Teaching Christians to Answer the World's Questions

GOD'S "FIRSTBORN" SON (HEBREWS 1:6)

Does "firstborn" necessarily mean "first created?"  In this lesson we squarely address one of the points of contention between mainstream Christianity and the Jehovah's Witnesses.  Jehovah's Witnesses believe that Jesus was in fact Michael the Archangel before he took on human form and came to earth as Jesus.  But as Michael, he was not God.  Instead, Michael was the first thing that God created, then He used Michael to create everything else.  This would mean that Jesus is not eternal, is not divine, and is another created being just like humanity.  This verse in Hebrews, referring to Christ as God's "firstborn", is one of the passages used to support this theology.  Join us as we dive into scripture to see if this interpretation of "firstborn" is supported by the text.
