Teaching Christians to Answer the World's Questions
THE NAMES OF GOD (HEBREWS 2:5-9)
Yahweh. Adonai.
Elohim. What do all of these Hebrew words have in common? They are
all used to refer to the one true God. But adonai and elohim can have
other meanings too. The author of Hebrews, relying upon a Greek
translation of "elohim," uses it to refer to angels. According to
today's passage, the "son of man" was made a little lower than angels.
In this lesson we talk about whether the "son of man" refers
specifically to Jesus or to mankind as a whole. When we take a look
back at Psalm 8 (the Psalm the author of Hebrews quotes), we discuss
the different meanings of all these names for God.
