Teaching Christians to Answer the World's Questions
THE ONLY BEGOTTEN SON (HEBREWS 1:5)
This
lesson picks up where the last one left off. Is it possible that the
"name above all names" is "Son"? But we will see that in the Old
Testament Hebrew language, angels are also sometimes referred to as
"sons of God." What is the difference, if any, between "a son of God"
and "the Son of God?" Also, what does it mean to be "begotten?" Does
this term help show that Jesus was not, in fact, a created being? Is
Jesus the eternal God? Join us as we explore these questions and also
discuss how Old Testament prophecy often found a partial fulfillment in
human terms, only to be ultimately fulfilled in Christ. The passage
quoted in Hebrews 1:5 is a primary example of how the same passage,
taken in one sense can be referring to a king of Israel, but ultimately
is pointing the way to the king of all creation, the Messiah.
