CHURCH SEMINARS, RETREATS AND WORKSHOPS

Why invite Ken Coughlan to speak at your seminar, retreat or workshop?

Unfortunately, many people in the pews are intimidated whenever they start to hear about “apologetics” or “theology.”  They think that this type of thing is properly left to people with seminary degrees.  The result is that the every day Christian on the street is not equipped to really explain what they believe or why they believe it.  The mission of Ten Minas Ministries is to show people that not only can they understand these topics, but they can have a fun time learning about them too.
Ken is an ordained elder in the Presbyterian Church (USA).  He is a lay leader in the church.  This means that not too long ago he was sitting in the same seat as many of the people in your congregation.  He also thought that apologetics and theology were best left to the “experts.”  But over time he found out God’s command in 1 Peter 3:15 to “be prepared to give an answer to everyone who asks you to give the reason for the hope that you have” is an achievable goal for pastors and lay people alike.  Ken knows what works for the people in the pews because he is one of them.  He knows how to communicate these concepts without sitting in a seminary classroom.

Ken has been a lawyer since 1998, so he makes his living by being able to communicate clearly.  He hosts the “Preparing Your Answer” podcast based upon a regular class he teaches at Grove Presbyterian Church in Aberdeen, Maryland.  He is the author of almost all of the articles here on the TMM website and is ready to provide you with an informative and entertaining program.  Feel free to look through the resources on this website for samples of Ken’s teaching.

What is Ken’s theological background?

Ken believes that a good summary of the Christian religion is the Nicene Creed.  If you accept all the tenets of that Creed, we here at Ten Minas Ministries are happy to call you a brother or sister in Christ.  Within the Nicene Creed’s general outline, there is room for diversity of opinion on issues of theology.  Personally, Ken is an elder in the Presbyterian Church (USA).  He is a Calvinist, but more along the lines of the moderate Calvinism of Norman Geisler as opposed to the more strict Calvinism of R.C. Sproul.  He believes that salvation is through the grace of God by faith alone, the Bible is the inerrant, divinely inspired Word of God, and the invisible church is made up of all true believers who have the Holy Spirit dwelling inside their hearts.

What topics does Ten Minas Ministries offer?

Ken Coughlan is happy to structure a program based upon whatever topic you have planned for your event.  The strength of our teaching ministry, however, is in two key areas: (1) reasons to believe (apologetics) and (2) solid reformed Biblical teaching (theology).  If you are looking for ideas, we currently have three “ready to go” programs that we can put on at your event.  Click on any of the topics below for a more detailed explanation of each program:

Christianity 101: Building the foundation of your faith on solid rock

Are You Out There God? Reasons to believe in today’s scientific world

Postmodernism and Contemporary Christianity

Any of the above programs can be modified to fit the length of time you have allocated for this part of your event.

What is the cost of a Ten Minas Ministries seminar, retreat or workshop?

Ten Minas Ministries does not want cost to get in the way of providing you with a first rate program.  Therefore, we are willing to work with virtually any budget.  Generally speaking, we ask only for consideration of our expenses, travel (including lodging depending on your distance from the northeastern Maryland area) and an honorarium in an amount of your choosing.  Ken does not require a hotel.  He is more than happy to stay with someone from your congregation if it helps you save on costs.

Does Ken appear for any other types of speaking engagements?

Yes.  Ken is also available to guest preach in the pulpit or appear for discussion panels, debates or corporate events.
